Which copper materials can be used as shielding materials

Copper is a conductive material. When electromagnetic waves encounter copper, it can not penetrate copper, but copper has electromagnetic absorption (eddy current loss), reflection (electromagnetic waves in the shield after reflection, the intensity will decay) and offset (induced current form reverse magnetic field, can offset part of the interference with electromagnetic waves), so as to achieve the shielding effect. Thus copper has good electromagnetic shielding performance. So what forms of copper materials can be used as electromagnetic shielding material?

1. Copper foil
The wide copper foil is mainly used in the testing room of medical institutions. Generally 0.105 mm thickness is used, and the width ranges from 1280 to 1380 mm (width can also be customized) ; Copper foil tape and graphene-coated composite copper foil are mainly used in electronic components, such as smart touch screens, which are generally customized in thickness and shape.

2. Copper tape
It’s used in the cable to prevent interference and improve transmission quality. Manufacturers typically bend or weld copper strips into "copper tubes" and wrap the wires inside.

3. Copper mesh
It is made of copper wire of different diameters. Copper meshes are with different densities and different softness. It’s flexible and can adapt to the needs of different shapes. Generally it’s used in electronic equipment, laboratories.

4. Copper braided tape
Divided into pure copper and tinned copper braid. It is more flexible than copper tape and is commonly used as a shielding material in cables. In addition, ultra-thin copper braided strip is used in some building decoration when needs low resistance shielding.
